Just a few
things connect the old Juazeiro to the modern one. In the last century,
the city was a commercial village where cattle dealers and merchants
would stop for a while before going to the "sertão". From
that time, the only things that remain are the "juazeiros" - typical
trees of the region- and some examples of the architecture.
Today, Juazeiro is an important industrial and agricultural center with
intense exportation activities. It became a modern city after the
urbanization of the fluvial border and the revitalization of the Eurico
Gaspar Dutra bridge.
